I enjoy various activities in my spare time. First, I love to read. I especially like to read young adult novels and children's literature. They are not only entertaining, but I also find myself discovering new connections, themes, and ideas each time I reread a book.
I also enjoy listening to and playing music in my spare time. I have played the clarinet since the 6th grade. I was a part of my high school’s marching band for four years, which provided me the unique opportunity to participate in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. Music also gave me the opportunity to participate in an orchestral wind ensemble that toured Europe. I spent time in five different countries while I was there: Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, and England.
I also spent 2 months in Ecuador after the summer after my freshman year of college. While in Ecuador, I studied Spanish intensively in the mornings and traveled in the afternoons.
This trip was a dramatically life changing experience. It was the first time I had ever had to struggle to communicate with people around me and I was exposed to different cultures and points of view while on the trip. It definitely required me to step out of my comfort zone.
